3 Men fighting for their and others freedom through conflict.
Many individuals bravely helped the cause, but three men brought national attention that resulted in the 1965 Voting Rights Act. A black volunteer, James Chaney, and white coworkers, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, were set out to investigate a church bombing near Philadelphia, Mississippi. The Freedom Summer activists faced many threats and harassment's throughout the campaign, 37 churches and 30 black homes and businesses were burned down during the summer. Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were arrested that afternoon, and their release from jail was the last time they were seen alive. Six weeks later, their bodies were found under a nearby dam. Goodman and Schwerner died from single gunshots wounds to the chest and Chaney was brutally beaten. Their death attracted national media attention to the issue, and this help the passing of 1965 Voting Rights Act. African American men and women finally had their freedom to vote.
